Carbon Facial
The Carbon Facial, also known as a “Carbon Laser Peel”, “Babydoll Facial” or “Hollywood Peel”, is a non-invasive skin treatment that uses a carbon solution and a laser to deeply cleanse pores, remove dead skin cells, improve acne, reduce inflammation and stimulate collagen production, resulting in smoother, brighter, and more even-toned skin.
It is fantastic for treating oily skin types and providing a pleasing freshen-up before a special event as there is no down time. It can also be used for Fitzpatrick skin types 1-5.
.
How does the treatment work?
Carbon paste and Laser Light are both used; Carbon paste is heated by the laser to help remove the surface congestion and then the laser pulse is used to stimulate your skin’s natural healing mechanisms. The carbon paste contains hyaluronic acid which aids to boost hydration and Vitamin B3 to reduce inflammation and acne.
How is the treatment carried out?
The carbon facial is a multi-step process. Before treatment begins, the skin is cleansed. Then, a specially formulated hydrating carbon peel is applied which is allowed to dry and absorb into your open pores. Once set, the carbon peel will have attached itself to any dirt, oil and dead skin cells which may be present upon on the skin surface. An active Q-Switch laser is then used to pass over the skin which gently targets and heats the carbon paste causing it to evaporate. As the laser makes contact with the carbon, you will hear a loud audible ‘crack’. Although loud, this is nothing to worry about, and is just the sound of the laser vaporising the carbon.
The laser is then used to pass over the skin a second time. As there is minimal carbon present, this will feel much more tolerable and more of a gentle warming rather than a “pinging” sensation. The unobstructed laser light will then stimulate your skin’s natural healing mechanisms. The deep pulse of the laser will activate cellular turnover and stimulate fibroblasts which will in turn naturally regenerate collagen and elastin leaving your skin feeling softer and smoother with minimal downtime
Am I suitable for treatment?
Yes, treatment is suitable for skin types 1-5, except recently tanned individuals. We recommend a full consultation to ascertain your suitability and to allow the treatment to be tailored to your needs.
How does the treatment feel?
Treatment can be mildly uncomfortable but no anaesthesia is required and most people describe the discomfort as moderate and acceptable, not unlike a quick pin prick or warm feeling.
What should I expect after the treatment?
A slight rosy appearance is normal after treatment. A cooling pack can be applied to calm the skin if required. Your skin will feel immediately fresher and plumper after treatment and a tightening of the skin should increase over the following months as new collagen is formed within the dermis. Makeup may be worn as soon as the skin settles after treatment.
Are there any side effects?
The skin may be very mildly pink after treatment but this usually subsides quickly. Most people experience no side effects and any skin reaction usually disappears within a few hours.
How long does each treatment take?
Treatment times can vary but typically between 45-60 minutes.
How many treatments are necessary?
Treatments may be carried out every 4 weeks and a course of treatments are recommended for best results. This will vary from person to person depending on whether you’re looking for a quick freshen-up or to reduce scarring and discolouration. Thereafter, top-up sessions are performed as required, but typically once or twice a year.
Consultation Procedure
Prior to treatment, a consultation is conducted in which a medical history is taken to confirm suitability for treatment. This is also a good opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. Before treatment commences you must provide written consent and a small test patch will be carried out.
